One REALTOR®, June Allen-Smith, a broker for CarMarc Realty Group in Warrenville, has been highlighted in the media for helping two families – one from Kentucky and another from Indiana – find homes in Illinois communities that are more LGBTQ+-friendly than their current communities. Gender-affirming care for minors will be banned in Kentucky later this month and by July 1 in Indiana.
Allen-Smith, a lesbian who serves the LGBTQ+ community, says she helps because she understands the issues the families face.
ABC7-Chicago reported that in 2023, state legislatures introduced more than 400 anti-transgender bills, with more than 60 passing, 100 failing and the rest pending. In addition, dozens of other anti-LGBTQ+ bills focusing on the discussion of sexuality at school, gay rights and lesbian rights have been proposed.
