Ginger Downs, CEO of Chicago Association of REALTORS® with Gary L. Clayton, CEO of Illinois REALTORS®. Downs was named the recipient of the William R. Magel Award on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.. Clayton is a former Magel Award recipient.

Chicago Association of REALTORS® CEO Ginger Downs is the recipient of the 2017 William R. Magel Award, honoring her for excellence as an association executive.

The announcement was made at the annual Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo held this week in Washington, D.C.

Downs, RCE, CAE, CIPS, IOM, became CAR’s CEO in 2005, and had previously worked in association management in in the Seattle area. In Chicago she has served on the board of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, and was president of ALL Chicago in 2014.

A 2012 chair of the NAR Association Executives Committee, Downs is a Golden R investor in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee.

The Magel award is named after a longtime association executive who was to have helped lead the National Association of REALTORS®, but died just before taking office as executive vice president.

Illinois REALTORS® CEO Gary L. Clayton is a recipient of the award, as is Terry Penza, former association executive at the North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS®.
