Changes to Core CE requirements in 2019 have prompted questions, especially from brokers who are thinking ahead about their 2020 license renewal.  A new 4-hour Core CE course will be available after July 10, 2019. Frequently asked questions about the Core CE requirement change follow:

Q. Does the change in Core CE requirements mean I have to take more education hours?

A. No, the total number of education hours required to renew your license remains the same. Brokers who were licensed prior to February 1, 2018 need 12 hours of CE  in total. The 12 hours must include a minimum of 4 hours of Core CE and a maximum of 8 hours Elective CE.

Q. What happens if I already completed the previous requirements for Core CE?

A.  If you have taken both a 3-hour Core A CE course and a 3-hour Core B CE course in the current cycle and have completed both courses by June 30, 2019, you do not need to take the new 4-hour Core CE course. You will receive credit for 6 CE hours and will only need to complete 6 hours of Elective CE to fulfill your 12-hour CE requirements for 2020 license renewal.

Q. What happens if I completed one CE course (Core A or Core B), but not the other?

A. If you have taken one Core A or Core B course in the current renewal cycle and have completed the course before June 30. 2019, you must take the new 4-hour Core CE course to fulfill your Core CE requirement for 2020 license renewal.  The 3-hour Core course you completed will be counted as 3 hours of Elective credit toward the 8 hours of required Elective CE.
