When Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit the U.S., Illinois REALTORS® did what it always does when tragedy strikes. The association representing more than 47,000 people donated $100,000 to help with recovery.
A review of records going back 10 years shows the power REALTORS® have in helping communities recover. From flooding in Minnesota to tornados slicing through Illinois, the association has always stepped up.
In all, nearly $1 million has been donated through the years in the wake of disasters, including $100,000 donations after Hurricane Katrina and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The commitment to providing assistance was underscored several years ago when the association set up a non-profit charitable arm to handle many in-state disaster assistance requests. Called Illinois REALTORS® Relief Foundation (IRRF), the organization has disbursed more than $130,000 in aid, primarily to assist with tornado recovery.
The Illinois fund often partners with the National Association of REALTORS® Relief Foundation, which means that the impact of state giving is magnified.
IRRF is currently accepting applications to help those affected by severe flooding in Northern Illinois this summer. (Applications are available on the webpage set up for the foundation).
