As Ginger Sreenan approaches her 24th anniversary as a Rockford area REALTOR®, she wants her fellow professionals to know that service to the state association can surprise, enlighten and energize those who love the profession.

She speaks from experience when she encourages colleagues to apply for one of six (6) open positions on the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors by the April 16 deadline. She’s in the middle of a three-year term.

“REALTORS® throughout the state take their charge seriously and want to be good stewards representing their fellow association members,” says the broker for Pioneer Real Estate Services in Rockford.  “We have thoughtful discussions and all views are respected.  I urge REALTORS® to step up and offer to serve.  You’ll meet many wonderful REALTORS® and some will become a part of your REALTOR® family.”

Foundation of involvement

Sreenan has a history of involvement with state and national REALTOR® associations, but she got her feet wet with the local group, the Rockford Area Association of REALTORS® (RAAR). She’s served on numerous RAAR committees, its Board of Directors and its leadership team, becoming president in 2007.  In 2006, she was selected its REALTOR® of the Year. She’s also a past president of the Rockford chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®.

A highlight from her involvement with the National Association of REALTORS® is her five years of work as the Federal Political Coordinator for the 16th Congressional District.

With the Illinois REALTORS®, she is the State Legislative Contact for state Sen. Steve Stadelman of the 34th District and was a Sterling “R” Major Investor for the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) in 2017. Since 2005, she has served on committees regarding government affairs, political involvement, professional development, professional standards, housing and leadership development. During the last couple of years, the Illinois Bicentennial Task Force has provided her with some unique experiences, though it’s difficult to overlook the lessons she learned through the Board of Directors.

Applying, interviewing and choosing

“In 2013, I was appointed to the original Nominating Committee that interviewed and selected the first candidates for the realigned Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors,” Sreenan says. “It was a fascinating process, and I was so struck by all the members who interviewed and their passion for the industry and desire to serve on the new board.

“The following year, I applied, and even though I was not selected, it was a fantastic learning process that gave me a totally different perspective,” she says. “In 2015, I was honored to serve the remaining term for a beloved board member (Chuck Wiercinski) who had passed away. At the end of that term, I submitted an application to serve the next three-year term.  I was thrilled to be selected!”
