Administrative changes to speed ethics hearing process

Presenters at the IAR Professional Standards Workshop in Springfield explained that administrative changes to processing REALTOR® Code of Ethics complaints should quicken decision-making for the ethics complaint hearing process this year.

Of 19 different points of discussion reviewed by Lynn Madison and Bruce Aydt this morning, several stood out:

  • Opposing parties may be called as witnesses during a hearing without advance notice;
  • Email has replaced certified or registered mail as the preferred form of notice and first-class mail (with notification services) is second best; and
  • Continuations of hearings will not be unlimited and shall only be granted when all parties mutually agree to a subsequent date.

An identical Professional Standards Workshop will be held Wednesday at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.
