As a reminder to our members, the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) website provides additional guidance concerning source of income discrimination in relation to real estate transactions. The Illinois Human Rights Act was expanded back on Jan. 1, 2023, to prohibit discrimination against an individual based on their source of income.

IDHR has also added a page to address frequently asked questions as they relate to immigration status in housing and real estate transactions. As you will recall, immigration status was added to the Illinois Human Rights Act as a protected class on Jan. 1, 2024.
