With its business resources, transportation infrastructure and educated workforce, Illinois is a coveted location for commercial and global real estate investment. Illinois REALTORS® works to build on that by participating in national and international events aimed at raising the state’s profile.
This fall, Illinois REALTORS® leaders and members attended two events, the C5 + CCIM Global Summit and the Midwest U.S. – Japan Association MWJA Conference, to expand connections and encourage more real estate growth in Illinois.
C5 + CCIM Global Summitt
More than 30 Illinois REALTORS® served as ambassadors representing the state’s commercial business at the National Association of REALTORS® C5 + CCIM Global Summit in Atlanta in late September.
The event provided opportunities for commercial real estate networking, education and dealmaking, with speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and industry influencers gathered in the U.S. for the third consecutive year. C5, which some have compared to MIPIM in Cannes, France, also attracted state and local associations, economic development organizations, domestic investors and international investors.
This year NAR partnered with the CCIM Institute to elevate the summit’s educational offerings and to attract connected commercial practitioners, many of whom hold the CCIM designation, commercial real estate’s most coveted credential. With 55 chapters and a worldwide referral network, the Institute clearly brings ‘global’ to the Summit.

Midwest U.S. – Japan Association MWJA Conference
In September, members of Illinois REALTORS® leadership team attended the 2023 MWJA Conference in Toyko, Japan. The Illinois delegation, led by Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton, also included state and business leaders.
The Midwest U.S.-Japan Association includes 10 Midwest states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin. The goal for Illinois REALTORS® and others in the Illinois contingent was to promote economic partnerships with Japan and showcase the state as a place to invest.
Illinois REALTORS® commitment to the Midwest U.S. – Japan Association has also helped it build connections with other real estate industry leaders. Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) 2023 National President Kurt Nishimura attended last year’s MWJA Conference on behalf of the Illinois leadership team.
