Illinois REALTORS® is providing Jason Plummer of Edwardsville several types of support in the March 20 general primary race for the Illinois State Senate District 54.
Through an independent expenditure, mailers and social media advertising have asked registered voters there to back him in a four-way race for the Republican nomination. Independent expenditure activities take place in support of a candidate for public office without any coordination with the candidate or the candidate’s campaign.
In addition, Illinois REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) trustees are asking REALTORS® in the 54th District to vote for Plummer. His record of supporting business, economic growth, private property rights and low taxes makes him a REALTOR® champion. For those reasons, his candidacy is considered an opportunity race. Plummer is facing George Barber, Rafael Him and Benjamin Stratemeyer in the primary. Since no Democrats have filed for election, the primary winner is scheduled to be unopposed in the Nov. 6 general election.
District 54 includes communities such as Effingham, Vandalia, Greenville, Highland, Edwardsville, Troy, Breese, Carlyle, Centralia and Salem. More than 210,000 residents live in the district. In 2012, Plummer ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House, Illinois District 12, losing to William Enyart. In 2010, he lost a five-way race for Illinois Lieutenant Governor to Sheila Simon.
Will County Board candidates get opportunity race support
In Will County, two incumbent candidates for District 11 have received opportunity race support from Illinois REALTORS®: Suzanne Hart and Charles “Chuck” Maher. Both represent Naperville.
Maher, the Majority Leader, was originally elected to the board in 2002. He’s chairman of the board’s Capital Improvements Committee, chairman of the board’s ad hoc Utilities & Energy Resource Committee and vice-chair of the Executive Committee.
Hart began her board service in 2010. She’s chair of the Legislative & Policy Committee, and a member of the Executive and Public Works & Transportation committees. She’s also president of the Will County Forest Preserve.
