REALTORS® are still considered essential workers and allowed to continue working under the new COVID-19 mitigations that will begin Friday for all 11 regions of Illinois, to combat the recent surge in positivity rates and hospitalizations.

You should review the guidance given during similar State mitigations during the Spring. This includes working virtually as much as possible, and when in-person appearances are required, use masking, social distancing and handwashing.

The new mitigation requirements announced by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Tuesday afternoon will further limit gatherings and encourage residents to stay home, while allowing some industries to remain open at significantly reduced capacities with proper safety measures in place. Temporary closures will include: casinos, indoor dining, group exercise classes and social gathering outside of immediate households. A complete list of the mitigations is available here.

“The best way to avoid a stay-at-home ORDER is to stay home (now),” Pritzker said.

The governor said health care experts estimate that between 17,000 and 45,000 could die of COVID-19 by March 1 if steps are not taken now. “We can’t let that happen,” he said. “We can save – potentially – thousands of lives.”

Each region of the state has the ability to loosen the mitigations by doing its part to reduce the percentage of infected residents and those hospitalized by willingly following the recommendations by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
