When asked about pending Rent Control legislation before the Illinois General Assembly, Rockford Area REALTORS CEO Conor Brown explained why his members oppose it and prefer more effective alternatives to making housing affordable.

Brown said Rent Control would cause some landlords to go out of business and others to reduce the amount of resources they reinvest in the properties, according to a report by Rockford television station 23 WIFR.

REALTORS® oppose Rent Control because it adds to bureaucracy, discourages land development and because property taxes rise faster than rents do.
