Whether you work nearby or live across the state, if you know any victims of the tornadoes that struck DeKalb and Ogle counties in April, please remind them to apply for financial assistance through the Illinois REALTORS® Relief Foundation by July 1.
Assistance is available to qualified applicants toward documented housing, subsistence and other needs, which in the view of the Oversight Committee, aids the applicants in their daily needs and employment. Relief assistance is limited up to $500 per application. The IAR Fund is needs-based, and other forms of assistance may be taken into account. Applicants will need to use the IAR form, and submit it by the July 1 deadline.
Also assistance is available through the National Association of REALTORS®, which grants one-time disbursements of up to $1,500 for individual households through the NAR REALTORS® Relief Foundation. This relief is for one month of housing assistance when the primary residence is damaged by tornado. It can be used to make a mortgage payment or to pay for temporary shelter. Use the NAR form to apply.
On Wednesday, Illinois’ congressional delegation asked for federal disaster assistance for DeKalb and Ogle counties to repair the tornado damage April 9, the Chicago Tribune reported. If granted, the federal assistance would allow business owners to obtain Small Business Administration loans to fix damaged property and real estate.
Two people were killed and numerous homes and businesses were damaged during April 9 storms that struck the Fairdale, Ashton, Rochelle, Kirkland and Belvidere communities south of Rockford.
