Illinois REALTORS® is reminding members to watch for scams involving emails and texts.

Scammers can send text and email messages that appear to come from colleagues. However, a closer inspection of these messages shows the phone numbers and email addresses used to send the messages are not from those colleagues. REALTORS® are encouraged to view all their texts and email messages suspiciously and to check details before responding or using links.

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) offers preventative resources, including a checklist of best practices and a Cybersecurity Checklist for real estate professionals.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) offers suggestions that can help businesses conduct transactions safely. If you think you have been scammed, you can contact your local FBI office and report the situation through its Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
