Republican governor-elect Bruce Rauner visited Springfield Friday afternoon as part of a planned “fly around” the state to thank voters for their support.

The tour was scheduled to begin Friday morning in Marion, then proceed to O’Fallon, Springfield, Moline, Peoria and Rockford. Also spotted during the Springfield event was U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-13th).

Rauner, the 57-year-old businessman from Chicago defeated incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn (D) on Tuesday.  According to the Associated Press, Rauner collected 1.78 million votes (50.77 percent), compared with 1.6 million for Quinn (45.87) and 118,098 for Libertarian candidate Chad Grimm.
