Illinois REALTORS® will help market the state to a global audience this week in Washington, D.C., as part of the annual SelectUSA conference.

The Select USA Investment Summit, which runs through June 12, is spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Commerce, and brings together economic development agencies nationwide to help market the country to a global investing audience. According to the event’s website, the event facilitated nearly $21 billion in investment in 2018 alone.

REALTOR® Alex Ruggieri and Illinois REALTORS® Director of Housing, Global Business and Diversity Sharon Gorrell are representing the state’s real estate industry at SelectUSA in Washington, D.C.

Representing the association at the conference are Alex Ruggieri, senior advisor with SVN Ramshaw Real Estate in Champaign, and Sharon Gorrell, Director of Housing, Global Business & Diversity for Illinois REALTORS®. They will be part of a delegation led by Intersect Illinois, which is the state’s public-private economic development partnership.

Ruggieri and Gorrell talked about the event on the Illinois REALTORS® podcast.

If we expect to have economic development, if we expect investment in our state … we have got to be there and have a presence,” Ruggieri said. “We need to show up, be ready and invite folks to come to the great state of Illinois.”

Select USA is one several global real estate-oriented activities Illinois REALTORS is involved with each year. In March, a delegation of REALTORS® traveled to the MIPIM conference in Cannes, France to represent the industry.

This is the second year Illinois REALTORS® has participated in SelectUSA. Gorrell said in addition to state economic development officials, representatives from utility providers and other regional business groups participate.

“Nobody has to have 100 percent of the answer, but everyone on the team knows where to get the answers,” she said.
