Chicago REALTOR® Zeke Morris, left, is set to join the Illinois REALTORS® leadership team as treasurer in 2020 pending approval from the association’s Board of Directors later this year.

Zeke Morris, who has served REALTOR® organizations at the local, state and national levels is poised to become Illinois REALTORS® treasurer in 2020.

The move, once it is sanctioned by the association’s Board of Directors in September, would place Morris in line to become president in 2022.

Illinois REALTORS® nominating committee formally recommended Morris as part of a slate of officers for 2020 which has been submitted to the association’s board. Other names sent to the board include: Ed Neaves, president; and Sue Miller, president-elect.

Morris, managing broker and owner of EMA Realty & Management in Chicago, is past president of the Chicago Association of REALTORS® and has served on the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors. He has served on numerous local, state and national committees in his tenure as a real estate professional.

The Chicago association awards a Zeke Morris Scholarship annually for pre- and post-license study which benefits stabilization in southside Chicago communities.

Morris served as chair of the NAR Fair Housing Act Anniversary Implementation Group, and played a high-profile role in making sure housing accessibility for all was at the core of events in D.C. during the annual Midyear Legislative Meetings and Trade Expo in 2018. He also had a key role in a fair housing video produced by Illinois REALTORS® and the dedication of a fair housing monument at Bicentennial Plaza, a REALTOR® Community Partnership  in Springfield.

Morris would be the first African-American president in the association’s 103-year history.

The Illinois REALTORS® Nominating Committee made the decision on Monday, Jan. 22, 2019, in East Peoria during the association’s annual Public Policy meetings.
