More than 30 Mokena REALTORS® will send letters to village leaders supporting changes to sign and vacant property ordinances. TRAR Government Affairs Committee members (l to r) Brian Masterson, Tracy Cox, Emily Tracy, Jim Sim and Karen Robertson got the ball rolling with a recent lunch hour phone barrage.

REALTORS® in Will County are encouraging the Mokena Village Board to update their sign and vacant property ordinances. Changes sought include:

  • Language that allows for responsible use of open house directional signs.
  • An exemption from the Vacant Property Tax for REALTOR® listed properties.

Mokena officials are generally friendly toward private property rights and homeownership, but Local Government Affairs Director Gideon Blustein wants to demonstrate to the mayor and village board that the proposed changes have the support of REALTORS® who live in Mokena.

To that end, the Three Rivers Association of REALTORS® Government Affairs Committee members held a phone bank to collect signatures from Mokena REALTORS®. Government Affairs Committee Chairman Jim Sim (Oak Leaf Realty), and members Tracy Cox (Baird & Warner), Brian Masterson (First Midwest Bank), Karen Robertson (Spring Realty), Emily Tracy (Spring Realty) called every Mokena REALTOR® over a recent lunch hour and were able to collect more than 30 signed letters which will be presented to Mokena officials.
