There are many different ways Illinois REALTORS® and members of the general public have decided to leave a legacy with a brick on Bicentennial Plaza, a REALTOR® Community Partnership.

Some have recorded their company name, the year their association was created, their wedding anniversary, favorite saying or years in the business.

Some have set a brick on the plaza in memory of a friend or family member.

After attending the grand opening of Bicentennial Plaza, and seeing first hand the Legacy Bricks in place, I was inspired to purchase a second brick with my good friend KC—in memory of our former broker James Burke,” says Vicky Turner, chair of the Illinois REALTORS® Bicentennial Task Force.

“Mr. Burke passed away two years ago and as his brick says—he truly was a friend to all. He was the Mayor of Dixon for four terms and a successful residential and commercial REALTOR®. As an avid political junkie, not only was it a pleasure to honor him and for his name to be on Bicentennial Plaza but also for his brick to be within the shadow of the Capitol building. He is missed by many!”

Bicentennial Plaza, a REALTOR® Community Partnership, was officially dedicated on Aug. 26, 2018, and is a Signature Legacy Project of the Illinois Bicentennial 1818-2018. The Plaza, located next to the Illinois REALTORS® headquarters and across the street from the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield, features a monument commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act and 16 interpretive panels presenting the people and events that tie to President Lincoln’s vision for America as a land of equal opportunity for all.
