On Wednesday, newly elected members of the 101st General Assembly were sworn in during ceremonies at the State Capitol and members of the Illinois REALTORS® Governmental Affairs team were on hand to greet them.

The state REALTOR® association takes a bipartisan approach to protecting the real estate industry and the rights of private property owners, and so its lobbyists introduced themselves to newcomers and welcomed back veteran legislators.  In the Senate, 40 Democratic candidates and 19 Republicans began their 2019 assignments as did 74 Democrats and 44 Republicans in the House of Representatives.

Leaders for both parties remained the same, House Speaker Michael Madigan of Chicago, Senate president John Cullerton of Chicago, Rep. Jim Durkin of Western Springs and Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington.  Both chambers met Wednesday and Thursday.

The next scheduled session is Jan. 29.
