Illinois REALTORS® offers a reminder of the discrimination some colleagues and customers experienced even after the Fair Housing Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968.

Frank Williams

Produced in January 2018 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the act, the video “Fair Housing Makes U.S. Stronger,” recaps the story of the Fair Housing Act and includes interviews with several REALTOR® members who persevered and succeeded despite encountering racist and sexist attitudes in the communities where they lived and worked.

Loretta Alonzo-Deubel

Illinois REALTORS® Frank Williams, Loretta Alonzo-Deubel and Vicky Silvano describe some of the obstacles they overcame. Others like Illinois REALTORS® President-elect Zeke Morris, 2018 Illinois REALTORS® President Matt Difanis, Dearborn REALTIST® Immediate Past President / REALTOR® Courtney Q. Jones and NAR’s Fred Underwood describe what needed to be done following the Fair Housing Act’s passage to make it effective. They fight to continue the conversation today.
