The Illinois Association of REALTORS® spoke in opposition to House Bill 261 before the House Counties and Townships Committee rejected it.

The bill sought to amend the Notice by Publication Act to allow all governmental units to publish any required public notice on its website instead of in a newspaper, according to the March 13 IAR State Capitol Report. IAR voiced concerns about reduced transparency for property taxpayers because of the thousands of units of local government in Illinois.

Last week’s committee vote on the bill was 5 voting “yes” and 6 voting “no.”
