The Illinois General Assembly returns Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 8-10, 2011 for the veto session. In this short video, Illinois Association of REALTORS® Director of Governmental Affairs Greg St. Aubin and Assistant Director of Legislative and Political Affairs Julie Sullivan discuss foreclosure legislation aimed at the maintenance and securing of vacant property that may come up in the veto session.

NOTE: While IAR reached a negotiated agreement on the legislation, Senate Bill 16 was not called for a vote prior to adjournment in the spring but could be back in the fall session that begins in late October.  A complicating factor, however, came about when the city of Chicago enacted its own ordinance in mid-July which did not include all changes discussed in the state legislation. This clouds this issue and makes its fate uncertain in the fall session – particularly when a uniform state law was a key goal.
