The Illinois Association of REALTORS® has earmarked $50,000 to go toward relief efforts following tornadoes that swept through parts of Illinois April 9.
A portion of that money will be matched by an NAR foundation to increase the available assistance for storm victims to $75,000 from two foundations.
Help from the REALTORS® Relief Foundation
The association donated $25,000 to the NAR REALTORS® Relief Foundation, which will be matched. That means $50,000 will be available through the foundation to assist with selected living expenses. The link to the form can be found here.
According to the rules, the grant is a one-time disbursement of funds for one individual household up to $1,500. Relief is for one month of housing assistance.
Additionally:
- Assistance can go toward a mortgage payment for the primary residence that was damaged by a tornado.
- It can go toward the cost of temporary shelter due to displacement from the tornados.
Aid from the Illinois REALTORS® Relief Fund
IAR’s own disaster relief fund, the Illinois REALTOR® Relief Fund, received a $25,000 infusion for use in rendering disaster assistance. The rules for this fund are different than those used by the NAR fund.
- Assistance is available to qualified applicants toward documented housing and other living needs needed for living and employment.
- Relief assistance is limited to $500 per application, and the deadline is July 1, 2015.
Assistance through the IAR fund is need-based, and other forms of assistance may be taken into account. A special IAR committee reviews the applications.

IAR has a long track record of helping with storm recovery. The association has made sizable donations over the years to help victims of natural disasters throughout Illinois.
